Character History: Tsukiyama at the Tokyo Ghoul wiki!

Personality:
The word "eccentric" seems to have been made for people like Shuu Tsukiyama: attractive, cultured, athletic and well-read, upon first meeting he seems to be the ideal son of a well-to-do family. His words are generally polite, if a bit flamboyant, and he seems very dedicated to presenting a good image; he's multilingual, good at sports and martial arts, and generally the sort of guy you wouldn't mind meeting for coffee once in a while at one of those high-end cafés he seems to like so much.

Of course, he's also got more than a few quirks: for all his high-class mannerisms, he doesn't seem to have much of an indoor voice, and he also doesn't seem to have worked out how much personal space is "enough." He's also completely inhuman in both the sadistic sort of way and the literal sort of way - that is to say, Tsukiyama is actually a creature called a ghoul, something that preys upon and eats people while making a practice of blending in with their society.

And Tsukiyama does try to blend in with society. He isn't the greatest at it - he's a little too flamboyant about everything, and perhaps more important is the fact that he's dealing with having to kill and eat people fairly badly. He's always loved humans to an extent, and the darkest times in his life were dealing with the fallout of having to kill and eat them when he was younger. So he's largely killed his emotions, convincing himself that if he's hedonistic and deeply sadistic about it, then it won't matter; it's the worst "fake it til you make it" in the world, and as such he's really bad at understanding and verbalizing his genuine emotions about anything or anyone. Everything is the mask, to the point that he's become one with it. As such, Tsukiyama is deeply self-serving, even when in the service of someone else: everything is about him and how he can get what he wants.

Granted, just because he's bad at understanding his own feelings, that doesn't stop him from manipulating and using the feelings of others; he tends to draw people towards him by becoming whatever he thinks they'd like him to be and filling whatever role someone else wants him to take. He's gotten good at that, and while it isn't all an act - he does genuinely want people to like him - a lot of it is so no one will take away what he considers "his". Because in the end that's how he considers people, possessions, prey, anything he happens to like; they're his, and they're not to be taken away from him, or the consequences…

…Well, let's say they'll be dire.

Powers/Abilities:
Non-powerset abilities:
As noted in the personality section, Tsukiyama is very good at becoming whatever someone else needs him to be. While this is often used as a manipulation method, this makes him very useful in tactical situations as well: he's able to cold read others quickly and find out what will either attract or repel them, flirting with people or convincing others that he needs help (his dedication to the bit has led him to physically vomit on the floor with little to no provocation in a medical clinic); when dealing with a psychopathic assassin, he becomes far more aggressive than usual, yelling out orders and plans in a way that will make him look like he's in charge of the situation and win the guy over with his confidence; when the group he's working with has to leave their information-gatherer behind, he's quick to become assertive and surprisingly helpful, relaying as much intel as possible about their situation as rapidly as he can without sacrificing clarity and filling in gaps in the group's collective knowledge as best he can; when talking to other powerful ghouls who are considered the leaders of their ward, he shifts easily into being the resident negotiator and mitigator. His strongest ability is basically that of the cold read, and to blend in as best he can with the situation without sacrificing who he is as a person.

Enhanced physical abilities:
Seeing as they're natural predators, ghouls have several natural physical advantages over humans; their speed is such that they can cross rooms and attack someone before anyone has really even registered that they're moving, much less had time to brace for it any, their strength is noted to be between four and seven times that of a normal human, and their skin is mostly impenetrable – ghouls can be harmed by other ghouls' kagunes or specialized weapons made from a specific sort of steel, but otherwise blades and guns don't really do anything to them. The notable exception to this is the mucus membranes of the body, which about as vulnerable to attack as a normal person's – they can be stabbed in the eyes with no difficulty (assuming you can get close enough) and they're vulnerable to anything they breathe in, things like that – but for the most part normal weapons aren't going to do much outside of perhaps annoy them; using blunt and/or concussive force tends to work, but it requires a lot of force.

Tsukiyama's senses are also stronger than humans'; ghouls tend to have better hearing and senses of smell in particular, and Tsukiyama is shown to be pretty good with the latter when it comes to identification and discernment purposes. He can differentiate between humans and non-humans by scent alone and from a good distance away (he's able to pick a single ghoul out in a street full of humans at one point in the light novels) and he tends to surround himself with nice-smelling natural things like flowers – he can't stand artificial scents like perfume, they make him sick.

Kagune/Kakugan
The primary weapon ghouls have at their disposal. A kagune is a physical extension of a ghoul's body (referred to as their "claws" in-series); it's a collection of special cells called RC cells that can be pushed through a ghoul's back, solidified and used as weapons. Tsukiyama's is a koukaku-type, which is noted for being very heavy and difficult to break and is often best-suited for defense due to the weight of it making it a bit unwieldy and draining on the body during battle. It emerges from below his right shoulderblade, taking the form of a large ribbonlike structure that wraps around his right arm in a large spiral; it's reasonably flexible and can be centered either high on his arm for the sake of using it as a proper shield to defend his upper body, or lower down below the elbow to be used for attacking purposes (seen here, looking like the drill that will pierce the heavens). His fighting style pretty much involves being a tank; he can't move as quickly as most in battle once his kagune is out, so he relies on the strength of his kagune to defend him until he can get a hit in. He can also lengthen and solidify the end of the structure to make a sword-type blade out of it, to extend his reach and do more striking damage that way.

His kakugan aren't so much an ability as they are something that happens to his appearance; ghouls' eyes can change either at will or unconsciously when they're overexcited, particularly hungry, or activating their RC cells to fight or regenerate, and Tsukiyama's aren't an exception. He has two kakugan, one in each eye, and they always activate together; when they're active his sclera turn black and his irises turn bright red. His control over them is good, and after the initial change he can usually flick them back to a more normal appearance even if he's still using his kagune.

Regeneration
All ghouls have at least a mild healing factor; Tsukiyama's is strong by a normal human's standards, less so as far as ghouls go – it isn't weaker than is considered reasonable, but it's not particularly great. Reasonably minor injuries can heal in seconds; this can extend to injuries that are deep and generally disgusting but not particularly life-threatening, at one point somebody takes out both of his eyes and slices through a decent portion of his face and that takes less than ten seconds to fix itself. However, he's not capable of recovering from massive injuries without requiring something to eat to boost his RC levels and assist with the process. Otherwise, a massive amount of overwhelming injuries can kill him, too much damage to certain parts of his back can ensure that he can't use his kagune or regenerate and that can also eventually kill him, and decapitation (either complete or internal, ie hangman's fractures) will definitely kill him; almost everything else can be recovered from, given food and enough time, but if he doesn't manage that then he dies.

Sample: With Ryuunosuke and with Ocelot
