I think it was meant as a word of caution to the teller, of all things, but...it's something like, "a fortune-teller mustn't feel anything too strongly, when using her cards, lest her own feelings color them and make it come out wrong." I wonder sometimes, if that doesn't make for a sort of sad state of affairs — that perhaps the people she wishes to help most are the same ones she's least able to.
[She hesitates, a little self-conscious, but then collects herself and offers the cards.]
