[It's been a little over a week since half of Johto fell asleep, and though the accounts of pretty much everyone he has talked to have confirmed that what they experienced were, in fact, dreams, he's had trouble shaking them. Oddly enough, every night since then had been dream free, if a bit restless compared to the three days of sleeping he'd done before.

So, he isn't entirely sure what it is compelling him to send Tsukiyama a message this late in the evening, at first. But he's the one who had warned him something like this might happen in the first place...and almost right around the time he said it would. Needless to say, it sure did happen.

Now he wonders if Tsukiyama slept, too.]

Are you awake?

[For what it's worth, Kaneki actually isn't waking him up; Tsukiyama tends to not sleep very much as it is, and the past few months have been particularly restless.

Well, particularly restless except when he's not; that recent weekend had been...odd.

But honestly, even if Kaneki had been waking him up, he wouldn't refuse communication with him anyway. Not by a long shot.]

I am. Something on your mind, Kaneki-kun?

[samsa]

Yeah. Um...I wanted to ask you something.

Did you pick up one of those feathers last week?

[preybeforemeals]

[Oh.]

I did, yes.

I assume you did the same...?

[samsa]

I did.

I think a lot of other people did, too.

[preybeforemeals]

That's what I've heard, yes.

Was it unpleasant for you?

[samsa]

...not at first.

[There's a pause before he sends anything else, as if he's trying to figure out how to word what he wants to say.]

But...it wasn't just my dreams that were unpleasant.

[He's not concerned by his own; he's had that nightmare before, after all.]

[...Well, that's...hm.

He pauses for a moment before sending it; he does so anyway, before he can second-guess himself.]

I understand.

If you don't want to tell me anything about it, that's fine, but the option exists for you should you decide to.

[samsa]

Thank you, but...I don't think I should. It seemed very personal.

I was just...shocked by it. The dreamer, she...seemed far too young to be having nightmares like that.

It was awful.

[It's at times like this that he sort of...realizes, vaguely, that most people probably don't respond to things like this like he does; his kneejerk response is to wonder why he's being told about this at all, then, if it's not for the sake of venting about it. It's not an angry sort of feeling, just...sort of confused, and it passes eventually, but a part of it lingers and he's not sure he likes it very much.]

It's hard to say who will and who won't, really, but I've found that age has very little to do with it. Maybe it's just the sort of experiences I'm used to back home... My own dreams aren't anywhere near that negative, of course, but I doubt that, say, Kirishima-san's would have been very happy even at a young age.

[samsa]

No, you're right. ...the thing is, it seemed less like just a nightmare and more like a...memory. But I don't know for sure.

[He knows well how terrible things are back where he's from, but it's hard seeing that things can be just as bad- if not worse- elsewhere. And he figured if he didn't tell someone about it that wasn't the person who had the dream outright he'd explode, so...there's that.]

I'm guessing your dreams were okay, then?

[preybeforemeals]

They almost always are. I'm not particularly prone to nightmares.

They were a bit strange this time, but it was the sort of strangeness where it doesn't occur to you that it probably should have been troubling in some way until well after you wake up. So I wouldn't say they were bad, just a bit odd.

[samsa]

Ah, yeah...I understand what you mean.

That last one, though...I dreamed I was at a dance. Did you?

...It seems many of us did, myself included.

[samsa]

That explains why there were so many people...it felt so real, but I'm almost certain it was just a dream.

[...]

Then again, I guess some of the areas did seem to change a lot...

[preybeforemeals]

Either way, I wouldn't let it concern you too much, as it seems we weren't harmed any by it in the long run - though since it's something that happened during the spring, I can't say that I'm surprised at that.

[samsa]

That's right...you said this might happen. Or, well...something like it, anyway.

Did you think I lied to you?

[samsa]

...no. I don't think you would have had a reason to lie about something like that.

But I am glad you told me.

[preybeforemeals]

It wasn't an accusation just now, you know. Just verifying.

I am glad to hear that, though.

[samsa]

Right. I'm glad it's over now, though.

[Though somehow...that reminds him of something.]

You said you were planning on traveling though, right? You didn't fall asleep before you got to a town, did you?

[preybeforemeals]

[...Well, that was a bit unexpected.]

Ah, that would have been a little unfortunate, wouldn't it? But no, I'm fine.

[samsa]

I just ask because...I don't even remember falling asleep, at all.

[One minute he was reading something and the next he wakes up with an angry Zangoose all up in his face, obviously very unhappy with the way he kept disappearing on her between dreams.]

Keep this up and I'll start thinking you're worried about me.

[samsa]

[He's glad this is over text because he isn't really sure what his face is doing right now-]

that would have been really bad if it happened to anyone, right? Sleeping on the ground outside for three days...
