Is it painful at all, or just inconvenient? I know when I was first getting accustomed to it the drag on my shoulder was hideous, but perhaps this place is a little nicer than that.

Well, a fair amount of it will probably come down to balance, n'est-ce pas? If you can support the weight of it in general without hurting yourself, it's not exactly a strength problem so much as it is learning to compensate, I'd think.
